When Girls Next Door Kill The True Story of Melinda Loveless Iris Owen 9781539149040 Books Reviews
The story was ill written, poor grammar, incomplete sentences
Had there been something new here, I might not have rated so low. But the writing is poor and this short piece is paraphrased from other writers, skirting close to plagiarism in some places. Disappointing.
Poorly written, too short, lots of editing errors.
Great mini book about Melinda Loveless, who committed the heinous torture and murder of 12 year old Shanda Sharer. Loveless was only 16 when she recruited 3 accomplices, Mary Laurine "Laurie" Tackett age 17, Hope Anna Rippey age 15 and Toni Lawrence age 15 to abduct, torture and murder 12 year old Shanda Renee Sharer, who used to attend Hazelwood Junior High School with her (Loveless had repeated multiple grades in school) because Melinda suspected that Shanda Sharer was having a relationship with Loveless's 14 year old girlfriend Amanda Heavrin. One of the first (and best) true crime books I ever read was about this case (Cruel Sacrifice by Aphrodite Jones) and when I read it I was horrified, because the victim was my age and I couldn't believe that she got killed over this girl's jealousy. I also couldn't believe that she got 2 other girls to participate in the murder of a complete stranger. Laurie Tackett basically committed the murder to suck up to Loveless, who she wanted to be friends, maybe more, with her. Hope Rippey had been friends with Laurie since elementary school and Toni Lawrence was really good friends with Hope. Melinda and Laurie actually killed Shanda Sharer, with Hope just waiting in the car with Toni at first but then deciding to participate in the torture and murder. Toni Lawrence did not participate in the murder, but she also did nothing to help, saying in court that she was terrified that if she went against the other girls that they would kill her next, but she also had opportunities to call the cops, or tell anyone that she ignored. I made a lot of mistakes as a teenager, even went to jail a few times but I never would have participated in this and I would have told everyone in that car about how killing someone can send you to prison for life and if that didn't work I would have told them to take me home and called 911 and I can't believe none of them did
I liked how thoroughly Owen detailed how Loveless may have came to be the way she is. Owen also details her accomplices and their upbringing.
I read about both of these trials and there is and was so much more going on beyond what was written here! There was also an extreme amount of typos. Editors need to pay more attention!
