Webster's defines "Mystery" as "anything that is kept secret or remains unexplained or unknown." In the world of Baseball Prospect
Guides, "Mystery" can be defined as "How does Joseph Werner's Prospect Digest Handbook remain so unknown?" This book and its massive analysis of more than 900 prospects is on par with some of the industry's heavy hitters - Baseball Prospectus and John Sickels, to name a few. Werner's book is a heady combination of scouting, sabermetrics and small details, and certainly deserving of a wider readership. One of the book's true joys is the author's complex formula for rating prospect performance. While I disagree with some of his conclusions on individual prospects, the fact that he has made such findings, and has written about them in such a highly readable manner makes this book incredibly valuable and enjoyable.

As with most prospect guides, I wish the author had included a little more on the burgeoning international market, but this is nitpicking. Viewing this book on content alone, this is a welcome and important new resource to prospect analysis. Highly Recommended.

Awful. The author has no idea what he is talking about. A waste of money.
very informative on the major prospects. well written and concise.
Great new way (the CAL system) to rate prospects. Also, ranks the top 250 prospects which can be very helpful when prepping for a sim or fantasy draft. I bought the version which was fine except that the headers and page numbers were missing but I was able to work around it. Can search with the app to find different prospects so it is easy to navigate.
Not much to say, other than the best book I have read in years. Puts all other prospect books to shame.Great layout, in -depth stats, and great writing . How did I not know about this book before? Cannot wait until next years books is published. One last thing, easy font size for the eyes.
This is a phenomenal resource for prospect evaluation. I pair this publication with the Baseball America Prospect Handbook and the Baseball Prospectus Futures Guide. All three contain everything you need to know to evaluate prospects. And it's great to see how each publication can view the same prospect differently, giving you the chance to evaluate those opinions and come to your own conclusion.
The best prospect book on the market in my opinion!
And I'm not just saying that because Mr.Werner appeared on our podcast (thoughtsofrs.podbean.com)!
I wanted him to appear because it's the best on the market.
A mix of scouting and numbers, the CAL makes sense to the sabrmetric crowd or the regular baseball fan.

Two quick quibbles that might be an easy fix for future editions.

1) On the edition, each team should have its own chapter in the table of contents in order to move to them quickly.
A great feature if taking to a game and want to find someone in a hurry.

2) I wish that there were a chart or list of some type for the ballparks in the minors that ranged from Hitters advantage to neutral to Pitchers advantage.
Would be a nice tool when accessing prospects.
Otherwise,its great!
Best prospect book I've read in years!
